Henare Mason is a New Zealand Māori whose tribal affiliations are Te Arawa and Tuhoe.
He has 30 years’ experience in the New Zealand health sector, in both management and governance. He was recently appointed as deputy chair of the New Zealand Māori Council, which is a statutory body and policy partner of the New Zealand Government.
Henare is extensively involved with Māori tribal development and has a particular interest in health equity, research and children’s health.
Henare served in Vietnam in the New Zealand Armed Services and consequently has an interest in the wellbeing of veterans.
