Respite care

Allows a carer to take a break

RDNS recognise that the health and wellbeing of a carer is as important as the person they are caring for. We provide short term care at home (respite) that allows a carer to take a break from their support role.

Respite care provides relief to long-term carers and their care recipient by having a qualified Aide take over care duties temporarily. The carer can then spend time focussing on their own wellbeing and needs. It might just be for a few hours of the day, but it can make a huge difference for a stressed carer.

Respite allows carers time to:

  • take a break
  • take care of personal business
  • maintain relationships outside of their role as a carer

Social Support

Support to stay engaged with the community

Staying engaged with your friends, whanau and local community is important and has many mental health and other benefits. Our support workers can help you stay connected to your local community in lots of different ways. This may mean helping you keep up with your hobbies or sharing a cup of tea with you. Maybe you would like to join a bowling club, attend a Tai chi class or go swimming. We can help you research and arrange these types of activities.

RDNS can also assist you to access social and community services and support groups, such as disability, stroke or arthritis foundations.
