Funding Options

How much does it cost?

When you are referred for home support services, RDNS will assess your eligibility for public assistance. You may be eligible for funding assistance from:

  • your district health board (DHB)
  • the ACC (accident compensation corporation)
  • the Ministry of Health

You can also pay to receive services privately for an hourly rate.

Rates vary depending on the level of your requirements and we provide a flexible service tailored to meet your needs. As a community not-for-profit organisation, you can rest assured that any service fees are directed straight back into caring for others in the community.

DHB funded services

If you are over 65 years, are a Community Services Card holder or someone who suffers from a long term condition, you may be eligible to access home support services funded by your DHB. Other eligibility conditions do apply and your first step should always be to discuss your individual needs with a GP.

You may be eligible to access funded support with household management tasks if you have a Community Services Card or have been assessed by Work and Income as meeting the household management income and asset level criteria. Income and asset testing does not apply to 'personal care' services.

ACC funded services

If you are an ACC client recovering from an injury and needing support, you may be eligible to access RDNS' home support services.

Claims for ongoing treatment must be accepted by ACC and part charges may apply. You need to complete a claim form at the time of treatment. The health service provider (RDNS) decides if a claim should be lodged and the claim must be accepted by ACC before it will contribute to ongoing funding.

MOH funded services

If you have a longer term or permanent impairment, you may be eligible for DSS. Disability support services (DSS) are funded to meet the needs of people living with a disability that is characterised by longer term and permanent impairment.  DSS mainly fund disability support services for people aged under 65 years.

DSS do not fund disability support services for people whose primary needs are driven by a personal health condition, mental health, health conditions more commonly associated with ageing, or injury/accident covered by ACC.

Private services

Anyone with an identified need for home support is eligible to receive RDNS services. Simply contact us to arrange an assessment of your needs and we can get you set up with a tailored support plan.

Other options

If RDNS is unable to provide services to you through our avenues of public assistance and you do not wish to pay for our services privately, you may still have other options.

  • you may be eligible for funding by another agency e.g. another Government department, a charity or health foundation or society
  • if you hold private medical insurance, your insurer may pay for home-based rehabilitation services and support
